Shikaku, the Nikoli original behind Patches

Carve the grid into numbered rectangles.

Rule · One clue per rectangle; match its area.

Shikaku is where Patches came from. The idea is the same, carve the board into rectangles so that each one holds a single clue and matches the area that clue names, played here on the original Nikoli style boards.

It rewards looking before drawing: find the clue that fits only one way and the rest of the grid unzips behind it. A new board arrives daily, with 600 more running from 5×5 up to a properly long 20×20.
